Weapons of Mass Instruction
Hello, and welcome! My name is Mandy Brown. I am a junior in college and an aspiring secondary education teacher. I am a curious and dedicated learner, animal lover, coffee drinker, and introverted empath.
My mission in life, and in teaching, is to make learning fun, engaging, and meaningful. I am intensely passionate about all I do, and aim to uphold a (primarily) pragmatic, social reconstructionist educational philosophy in teaching. I will value all of my students regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, family background, ability, etc. in my classroom. In adhering to my educational philosophy, I will strive to differentiate instruction to meet students' individual needs: emotional, behavioral, and cognitive. The pages of this site embody my goal to work for classroom and instructional inclusion. They detail specific learner characteristics and research-based accomodations for teachers to use. These pages describe Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, English Language Learners, Gifted & Talented, and Empathic learners and their needs.
So I mentioned I am intensly passionate about things and enjoy connecting life and learning . . . the last page of this site originates from my personal experience and from the experiences of other Empaths I have surveyed, with a particular nod towards Myers-Briggs's INFJ group of introverted feelers (For more on Myers-Briggs www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/mbti-basics/). Growing up, I quickly learned education did not value my introverted functioning and teachers did not know how to respond to student Empaths like me. I hope this site can begin to change the way education shames and/or ignores sensitive and introverted students. I am here to push for the identification and validation of this group of exceptional learners. I am here to make the needs of my beloved quiet people loud.
Thanks to all who contributed. You know who you are, and I hope you know you're never "too sensitive;" you're magical, loved, graceful, and powerful. Keep feeling as only you can. It's a gift--while stressful--NOT a flaw.
